Do typefaces really matter?
To many people it doesn't matter what typeface/font you use when communicating to your target audience. Others think using as many typefaces as possible is a good thing.
We here at pH creative do not belong to that camp!
Sure, lives won't be lost if you mix up your typefaces, but don't you want your clients/customers/supporters to be able to easily read and understand your message? Don't you want everything about your communication materials to give an accurate impression of your business and the experience it offers?
BBC News online had an excellent article on this topic recenlty, titled "Do typefaces really matter" (using the subtitle typeface in Avatar as a classic example).
The answer, of course, is yes.
Social media has changed - are you keeping up?
It wasn't all that long ago, facebook was just about photos and relationship status updates.
Today, facebook has not only revolutionised how people communicate, it has also become one of the most powerful marketing and information tools in the world.
Trendwatching, one of the savviest marketing news services around, has an insightful briefing this month analysing how big (and small) business is using social media - and how, as a result, consumers are forcing those businesses to adapt to suit their needs.
You can learn about how facebook came to be (and how socially awkward Mark Zuckerberg is) by watching The Social Network - but that only scratches the facebook surface.
Because, in only a few years, facebook has grown beyond its original mandate of connecting people (although it still does that as effectively as it always has), to becoming the primary place people go to for the latest news about products, pop culture, writers, movies, TV shows, actors, politicians - you name it - in a single newsfeed.
Where else can you see your best friend's new baby pics, find out the latest policy announcement from the federal government and check out your favourite band's new film clip?
Anyone who wants people to know what they've got to say (or sell) will have a facebook page. And it only takes one click of the "Like" button, for hundreds, if not thousands, of people to instantly share something they're interested in.
The beauty of facebook is that it can be whatever you want it to be. Want to just share your high res holiday photos with a handful of friends? You can do that, and nothing else. Want to stay up-to-date with your favourite products, or be the first to hear about new promotions at your favourite restaurant? Facebook can do that for you too.
As a business, you need to know how to tap into this brave new world - and how to do it in a way that endears you to your cients/customers/fans - not makes them feel they are being harassed in cyberspace. And it's really not that hard...
